Why the fight against cancer is a priority
Every man is sensitive to some causes rather than others. For my part, I am particularly attentive to the development of cancer, or rather cancers.
Some researchers (those at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France) predict a 75% increase in the number of new cases of cancer worldwide, reaching 22 million new cases annually in 2030, compared to "only" 12.7 million new cases diagnosed in 2008. This means that one out of two men and one out of three women will be struck by cancer at some point in their lives.
And yet today, more than 50% of adult cancers and nearly 80% of childhood cancers are cured.
However, it must be emphasized that this statistic applies to Europe because obviously, people in developed and developing countries are not in the same boat because the possible treatments are not the same in all countries.
But the cancers that will develop will not necessarily be the same: while the number of cases of breast, prostate or colon cancer should increase everywhere in the world, cases of cervical or stomach cancer should decrease in developed countries but increase in developing countries.
The disease will therefore explode and the world will not have enough oncologists to treat all patients.
In countries like Lebanon or Morocco, the disease is poorly managed...and that is why I think it is important to get involved.
